Cake That! An Inspiration for Readers

I had so much fun writing Cake That! My husband and I enjoy watching food competition shows. They inspire us in the kitchen, and they inspired me in my writing as well. There are so many outstanding personalities to develop into characters you love and love to hate! And each one of these characters comes to life in Cake That! as you accompany Livvy Miller on her journey from her cupcake truck in St. Louis, Missouri to the television recording studio in Los Angeles, California.

The story includes descriptions for a variety of cakes and frostings, but there is one I didn’t include in Livvy’s time on the show. It’s one of my favorite frosting recipes. It’s perfectly paired with fall flavors, like pumpkin cupcakes, but don’t let that keep you from mixing up a batch now. Get inspired and come up with your own pairings. Then let me know what you come up with. I’d love to hear from you!

Vanilla Chai Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients:

¼ cup half and half

1 black tea bag

1 cup room temperature butter

4 cups sifted powdered sugar

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground ginger

¼ teaspoon cardamom

¼ tsp cloves

2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions: Pour half and half into a small bowl or mug. Microwave for 45 seconds. Steep tea bag in the hot liquid. In a separate bowl, mix the butter for one minute on medium speed. Add powdered sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and vanilla extract. Mix on low. After the dry ingredients are fully mixed into the butter, increase speed to medium and add the half and half. Mix well. More powdered sugar can be added to reach the desired consistency.

Enjoy

When she isn’t writing or ministering alongside teens and women, Heather loves to bake, spend time with her family or sit down with a cup of cocoa and watch the latest Hallmark channel movie.

Cake That! Ten bakers. Nine days. Only one winner.

Competing on the Cake That baking show is a dream come true for Livvy Miler, but debt on her cupcake truck and an expensive repair make her question if it’s one she should chase.

Thank you for the yummy recipe and info about your new book!
