A few weeks ago I posted this question on Facebook: What is one bit of advice you’d give to your younger self?
The variety of responses caused me to think, agree, reflect, and some answers caused me to laugh. All were outstanding, and I want to share some of these with you. I’m not including the person’s name who offered the suggestion. Neither are these in a particular order. Enjoy!
The following are the top 25 tips to our younger self.
- Don’t let fear hold you back.
- Talk less, listen more.
- Don’t take yourself too seriously.
- Live each day as if it was your last. Put Jesus first in everything.
- You will survive.
- Never lose your imagination.
- Say your prayers every night.
- Around 1996, I’d tell myself to buy Amazon stock.
- Brace yourself! You’re in for one wild ride!
- Enjoy the season you’re in.
- Study more.
- You’re an idiot!
- Be bold.
- Be who you are in Christ.
- Sunscreen and limit time in the sun.
- Be kind.
- Follow my dreams, not other people.
- Be you with confidence.
- Start writing younger.
- Exercise and eat right.
- Buy Apple when it goes public.
- Hold on to Jesus and never give up.
- Buy IBM stock
- Don’t doubt your dreams.
- Always be kind.
How about you? Do you have advice for your younger self that we all can use?

Express, don’t pretend I am not angry.
Tell the offender not friends how I feel about the offense I experienced.
Tell off some folks prayerfully, and wisely!
That’s good Frances:))
Frances, you always bring excellent insight. Thank you
I keep remembering a quote from my maternal grandmother “Act in haste. Repent in leisure.”
She also told me to be careful when making friends since we can’t be around dirt without getting some of it on you. I wasn’t even a teenager when hearing this but it sure helped me along my way to adulthood and beyond.
Linda, your grandmother was a wise woman. I agree 100%
I was SO grateful for my salvation that I cried at the mention of His Name for the first year, and as the song goes, “He gets sweeter and sweeter as the days go by”….The Holy Spirit backed me into a corner on Nov. 7, 1971, about 10pm, and made me to understand that was the time to say YES to the LORD, because it was possible I might never have another opportunity. I was 36 years old and had been running from Him since I was young.
“Thank You Lord for saving my soul; thank You Lord for making me whole; thank You Lord for giving to me, Thy great salvation, so rich so free.” He truly is “More Than Wonderful.”
I WISH I had received Christ Jesus as Savior AND Lord much earlier than I did….then maybe I wouldn’t have done so many dumb things!
Vondia, I understand. But I do believe those of us who have made mistakes are more grateful for our salvation and better equipped to help others who suffer from poor decisions.
Vondia,
I grew up in the church, but didn’t choose to follow Christ until I was 19. (I know, it’s no 36, “but hey, it ain’t no 5-year-old, neither”!) What I have been reminded of more than once is that “in God’s economy, nothing is ever wasted”. God can even use your “Jonah days” (when you were running from the Lord) to minister to others, and reach people for Him.
Marcia, God always uses the sinner who is most grateful for their salvation. Thank you so much for the reminder.
