Summer Reading for You!

By DiAnn Mills @DiAnnMillsreading city

Summer is the perfect time to catch up on reading. Between vacations and stealing away a few hours to ourselves, the lure of a good book draws us to read. We’re always looking for our favorite writers to release their next book, and we love exploring new ones.

Many of you have asked who are my favorite authors. Actually a lot! I’ll list my top five in alphabetical order. Whether fiction or nonfiction, these favs are page-turners.

  1. David Baldacci
  2. Harlan Coben
  3. Lynette Eason
  4. Steven James
  5. Joel Rosenberg

Reading - beach

The beach? Here you can soak up the sun while reading  (don’t forget the sunscreen), sip on a cold drink, and when the mood hits, you can take a dip.

What about the lake? While your fishing pole is dangling over the side of a pier and you’re waiting on a nibble, you can get lost for  hours.

How about seated beside a bubbling brook? Enjoy a picnic and a book beneath some shaded trees.

  1. Like so many others who have already commented, I read everywhere I go when I have to wait–the doctor’s office, the line at the post office, while my husband is filling the gas tank, waiting in the car for someone, when eating a meal by myself, when I’m winding down trying to get sleepy, etc. I even listen to book on CD’s or MP3 CD’s while I’m ironing, cooking, putting on my make-up, doing my hair, getting dressed in the morning or getting ready for bed at night. I love to read!

  2. Like Becky, I read anywhere, even while my hubby puts gas in our car. I take a book to every doctor’s appointment which keeps me entertained and less frustrated over long waits. Reading on the beach is one of my favorite places. Books are the first thing I pack for vacation, and if I’m flying I load up my Kindle.

Thanks for the great suggestions, Diann!

  3. I have been a bookworm since I was a child. I read just about anywhere, but unfortunately I can’t read in a moving car. It gives me a sick headache. 🙁 One of the things I missed when my kids started driving/went to college were all those waiting times at piano lessons, voice lessons, at Starbucks while they were at youth group, etc. Now with a full-time job, I’m really having to scramble to find time! LOL But books are a priority! Especially when they are written by you, Lynette, Tamera Alexander, Angie Hunt, Terri Blackstock, Harry Kraus…….I better stop naming names before I get in trouble for leaving someone off! But those are the creme de la creme!

  4. I always have a book with me, just in case. I like to read on the back porch in the summer and fall especially if there is a nice breeze blowing. In the winter in my recliner while watching TV. Lynette Eason, Dani Pettrey, Susan May Warren and of course, you, are my favorites. I’m sure I have plenty more authors I like.

  5. I love to read. If I go somewhere I think I may have to wait, I take a book along. I’ve read a lot of books while waiting on doctors, in hospitals and even while watching TV. I don’t think there is a p[lace I won’t read. Well, maybe. Some of your top five are among my top five. I really enjoy Steven James and Lynette Eason too. You of course are one of my top five. Books are how I stay sane. If I couldn’t read I would go crazy. Love the post.

  6. Looks like I have to work harder at this. I didn’t make the favs list. Har har.

I read best where there are no distractions and my hearing loss dictates no music/noise interference. So I did read mostly on airplane trips when I worked (retired now).

Any author in the suspense/intrigue genre works for me. I’ve read Baldacci and your other top five except for Rosenberg, I understand he writes the same type of thing I work on. I’m trying not to be influenced by like work. Some others I read: W.E.B. Griffin, Tom Clancy (although he doesn’t really write all those with his name on them in association with the “withs”), and a shirt sleeve full of names I don’t remember.

  7. I love reading books by Joel Rosenberg and by Lynette Eason! I will have to check out the others. My favorite reading spot is anywhere outside during warm weather. During winter, I prefer to sit or recline by the fireplace. However, I read anywhere I can – even while my hubby is fueling the car. Great Blog!!!!
