I remember the rootbeer barrels, Junior mint, and bit ot honey but I loved the hershey’s bars adn almond joy and mounds. I guess I was ahead of the times. I remember the tar babies, I loved them too.
Connie, I’m pretty much a chocolate lover – which is why Junior Mints were so very good.
High Noon was my favorite. Wish I knew how to get some now.
Well now, since I am SO old…(85)…let me tell you a favorite when I was a kid….Peanut Patties….absolutely delicious! YUM!
My daughter found out that Amazon carries them. We’ll probably be ordering some:)
Vondia, Peanut Patties – I think I remember those. I’ll have to look on Amazon!
Sugar babies were always delicious. Our local five and dime store sold them. I enjoyed buying them and eating slowly to make them last. 🙂
Hi Melissa, those and Junior Mints were good for the movies. 🙂
My favorites were Sweetarts and Fruit Stripe Gum. There is an old store near Helen, Georgia called the Old Sautee Store that sells a lot of those old time candies you can’t find any place else. I always love to visit there and stock up. Also down the road is the Babyland General Hospital where Cabbage Patch babies are born.
Barbara, I remember fruit-stripe gum! Forgotten about those. 🙂
Kay, I just looked on Amazon, and the site has Big Hunk!
I have a favorite from each decade – but I wasn’t born until 1964! One of my all-time favorites is Junior Mints, loved Sugar Daddy, and the 100 Grand Bar (known in the ‘70s as the 100 Thousand Dollar Bar!) was one I loved, too!
Thanks, Regina
I remember eating Junior Mints slowly at the the theater.
I remember having a nickel to spend at the “bridey” (variety) store, and blowing it on 20 tar babies, a licorice confection that I loved so much. They were 4 for a penny. I could make a nickel’s worth last all week!! Lol
Sherry, I’m glad someone kept the licorice people in the candy business! You could have had mine!
I love Dad’s Root Beer Barrels. I still find some at the drug stores but their not Dad’s brand.
One of my favorite from the 50s isn’t mentioned. Mom called it milk candy but I don’t know the real name. It was shaped like a bottle and, when you bit into it, it had a creamy liquid filling. I need to hunt in Cracker Barrel and see if I can find it.
Sherry, I remember those but I can’t think of the name. Wasn’t the little bottle caramel colored?
Forever Yours Bars… not the Milky Way Midnights that they say are the same. They really aren’t. I just now saw that Ethel M Chocolates made a Forever Yours bar. I’m going to have to order one and check it out.
Linda Kish, I enjoyed Forever Yours bars too! And I liked the small wax bottles with liquid inside, of different flavors. My dad and I bought Sees candies and shared a box every few months.
I think the wax bottles were edible – but not necessarily tasty.
Linda, I remember the Forever Yours Bars. Red wrapper?
I guess I am still stuck in the 50’s. I still buy the Fireballs and Bit-O-Honey.
Paula, Fireballs are still one of my favs.
I remember Big Hunk and still love it when I can find it – which isn’t often.Kay
Kay, I’m so sorry. I thought I’d responded to you. Big Hunk is on Amazon. 🙂
