Isn’t it stunning? The breathtaking backdrop of the Guadalupe Mountains and the helicopter hint at the action-packed adventure waiting inside!
Here’s a sneak peek of the story.
A rescue team searches for a missing young girl and suspects all is not as it seems in this high-stakes romantic suspense novel from the author of Lethal Standoff and Facing the Enemy.
When wilderness survival expert Therese Palmer receives a frantic phone call from former colleague Professor Rurik Ivanov, she is shocked by the news that his young daughter, Alina, is missing―and that Rurik wants Therese’s help finding her. She’s sure Rurik hasn’t given her the whole story . . . especially since he refuses to report the kidnapping to the police. Yet with a child’s life hanging in the balance, Therese can’t turn down this mission. She knows the clock is ticking and she can’t do this alone.
Therese reaches out to Texas Ranger Blane Gardner, whom she met seven months ago during one of her training courses in wilderness survival skills. Blane’s specialized training and background with the Crisis Negotiation Unit make him uniquely prepared for this search-and-rescue mission. He agrees to help Therese and to accept Rurik’s terms to keep Alina’s disappearance quiet, and as the two begin working together, Therese is determined the spark growing between them won’t distract from their mission to save Alina.
Traversing deep into the desert of Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Alina’s last known location, Therese and Blane struggle to separate truth from lies within the mix of intel they’re receiving. As they close in on answers that suggest the involvement of Russian organized crime and a high-profile international assassination attempt, they must fight to rescue Alina before she becomes an innocent casualty of a much bigger plot―no matter the risk to their own lives.

Oh I can hardly wait.
DiAnn- I know how much you research your books – did you go through any survivalist classes or training- I’ll bet you did because you are always right on target with your books.
It sounds amazing!
Love these kinds of stories.
Thank you!!
Hi Joyce, actually I took two classes online, then we hiked the area where the story takes place. You know me too well!
Great cover! I have no doubt this book will be just as fantastic as all your others!
Deena, you are so kind. Thank you!
You wrote it, therefore we know it’s great. I love the cover–West Texas is beautiful country. Do I understand this is a standalone even though there is mention of a previous meeting. Or, is it the beginning of a new series?
Hi Peggy, the novel is a standalone. My concern with series is presenting a story where the reader needs to purchase all the books. But it is about a negotiator like Lethal Standoff.
Looking forward to reading this one. 🙂
Thanks, Melissa!
The cover is fantastic! Looking forward to the story inside!!
Thanks, Connie, I really like the cover too.
Thank you for the update, DiAnn. I live in West Texas and will be familiar with the area. I have put the book on my shopping list on Amazon and looking forward to reading it. I agree with Cindy Hammonds, your books keep me turning pages long after the lights should go out! Take care and God bless you.
Thanks, Donna, my husband and I hiked the area and spent time talking to park rangers. I hope it got the area right!
So excited for this book! I grew up in Van Horn south of the Guadeloupe Mountains and hiked and camped there many many times. Thank you for writing about these beautiful mountains.
Judy, they have a desolate beauty that drew me into the area. I was captivated.

Thanks, Karen! I’m excited about it too.
Sounds like a wonderful book, DiAnn. And I love the cover!
I also like the fact that you put discussion questions for book clubs in. This is something I’m moving toward.
Best wishes with the book! I’m thrilled that you’re going to be the guest on my blog in September where we can discuss the book in detail.
Thanks, Kay. I think the discussion questions are a huge help for bookclubs, Before the release, I’ll have a downloadable bookclub kit! September will be here before we know it.
DiAnn, this definitely sounds like a must read!
Thanks, Sandy, I had lots of fun researching and writing it.
