A Funny Thing Happened on the Way …
Recently I attended the Write To Publish Conference in Wheaton, Illinois as part of the faculty. My job was to teach a continuing class on The Dance of Character and Plot. Fun! The idea of meeting up with friends and making new ones had me turning cartwheels. (In my mind.)
Good things and not-so-good things occurred at the conference.
Good!
The morning of my departure, I was up at 4:30 a.m. and made it to the airport shortly after 6:00. I was to board my flight shortly before 7:00.
Not-so-Good!
The flight was delayed forty-five minutes in boarding and two hours behind schedule in arriving to Chicago.
Good!
I could write and made lots of headway in finishing up the first book in my new romantic suspense series.
Not-so-Good!
I was so excited to have a fabulous lunch with editors and my marketing and promotion team at Tyndale. They had to eat without me.
Good!
The driver scheduled to pick me up at the O’Hare airport waited for me.
Not-so-Good!
Once registered and checked into staff housing at Wheaton, I choose to unpack. The two straps holding my clothing in place had been unfastened, and my plastic container of white, powder vitamin C had not only been opened, but the lid hadn’t been re-secured. White powder covered my wardrobe for the week.
Good!
I laughed about the day. I shook out my clothes and washed a few pieces. They were all full of vitamin C and now disease free.
Good!
My lunch with Tyndale was rescheduled for a breakfast, and we had an amazing time together.
Good!
My class had excellent attendance, and I thoroughly enjoyed helping the writers.
Good!
One of the students in my continuing fiction class won a year of mentoring from a respected publisher.
Good!
I caught up with friends and made new ones!
Good!
I finished my book on the way home!
My point is God is in the business of ensuring His followers that the good times always outweigh the bad. There’s a reason why Expect an Adventure is my brand and the way I live my life.
When was the last time you had a good-day mixed with a not-so-good day? How did you handle it?
