Shoes Tell a Lot about a Person
I love shoes. What woman doesn’t? Mine are in plastic boxes labeled with the design and color. Yea, I’m a bit OCD about the color-coordinated thing. The outfit, the scarf, the jewelry, and the shoes have to match for a woman to feel good about herself. That has to be an unwritten law in the world of fashion – and therapy.
For certain, we can tell a woman’s personality by the shoes she wears. Take a look at the designer woman below. Even her roller skates have pizzazz. When she’s sailing around the rink, her feet give her distinction and style.
Then there’s the woman who has a pair of flip-flops for every piece of clothing in her closet. She’s fun-loving, free spirit. Note this type of woman paints her toes according to the color of her flip-flops.
A determined woman understands the values of boots—ankle-high, knee-high, hiking, riding, and over the knees. Boots can be zipped, laced, and paired with any outfit. The color is left to the fashion-conscious woman’s imagination. Boots are actually economical because the budget-minded woman can forgo pedicures.
Ah, my personal favorite . . . heels from short and squatty to five or six inches tall. A woman who wants to look sexy and graceful can pull it off with these babies. Wear them with diamonds and a long gown or ankle jeans. Love ‘em.
Flats . . . These are supposed to be comfortable, but actually I’ve worn some miserable fitting flats. A tall woman who wants to be on level ground with her man or a woman who craves a casual look slides into color-coordinating flats.
Platforms . . . This is for the woman who desires to look taller but needs a huge edge on comfort. Like tennis shoes on steroids.
Tennis shoes are for the active woman who has a place to go and limited time to get there. Moms and baby boomers dive into these treasures. Tennis shoes offer arch support and wild colors. Not really suitable for dress unless your a big city gal who has miles to walk before reaching the office.
Let’s get the conversation going.
What do your shoes say about you?

I’m a flip-flop girl, for sure. (I don’t paint my toenails to match my flip-flops, but it’s practically unheard of to see me without my toenails painted.) I also love high-heeled sandals — I mean, like, 5-inch heels. I’m 5’7″, so they put me at about 6′ tall, which still doesn’t seem all that tall considering that I’m still shorter than most of my brothers who range from 5’11” to 6’6″. 😉 And I hate tennis shoes so, in winter, I practically live in my boots– high-heeled, of course. 😉
Hi Aerkyah
Oh, to be tall – 5’2″ here.
Love flip-flops and boots – and toe nails are painted too!
Thanks for commenting!
I’m pretty versatile, but most of my shoes are black. I always go for comfort. I won’t make it through the day if my feet hurt. Shoes are my favorite thing to buy besides books, so I shop the sales and try to get brand names so they’ll last longer. Favorite brands for comfort are Clarks and Michael M. I can’t handle high heels anymore, unless they’re platformed or lower than 1″ inches or so. Kills my ankles. And, of course, I have to have the perfect pair with each outfit.
I own everything from flip flop to tennis shoes, riding boots to cowboy boots, sandals flat and platform, ballet flats to casual dress shoes. 🙂
Hi Alycia,
Yep, I can see you in every kind of shoe – probably depends on what character you’re writing about today. 🙂
Easy on…easy off. Cowboy boots–flat, stylish, comfortable, no frills. Easy on…easy off.

And those cowboy boots go with everything!
I only wear Fit Flops. I have 14 pair from casual to sequined, to winter type shoes. My feet protest if I try to wear any other type. I even have a brand new matching pair to wear in my son’s wedding coming up in July.
Gail, you could write your own blog about coordinating flip-flops with your wardrobe!
Haha!! My shoes would confuse everyone! From low heeled dress shoes (I like comfort) to slip-on Clarks, dress sandals to flip-flops, memory foam colorful Sketcher tennis shoes to sturdy walking shoes. Hmm, guess all this means I’m out for comfort?!?
That means you’re versatile!
Flats, defintely flats. I am almost six feet tall and in my generation being the tallest girl in school was not attractive. Especially when most of the guys were still growing. Flats leveled the field for my hubby who is a bit shorter. When we married he wore platform heels (1973) and I wore slippers. After 40 plus years he doesn’t mind but my achiles tendon does. Rarely wear heels and if I do they are platform or very low. Being totally put-together is hard for me to acheive so I settle for doing the best I can and being comfortable with it. However, the girls in my latest novel are very short and love all those high heeled classy shoes. They wear them with grace and pose and like you love to be all put together.
I love flats – but have a hard time finding comfy ones. Tall girls are an envy at 5’2″ – so I’m envious of your height!
