Mickey Mouse never ages but his creation began in 1928. That makes our beloved Mickey 97 years old. Amazing! He still looks spry, adorable, and warming the hearts of young and old. Take a stroll through Disney Land or Disney World in the US or internationally, and you’ll see the star of the park waving and hugging young and old.
A huge spin of questions race through my mind—
- What is your first memory of Mickey Mouse?
- Have you seen Mickey’s first film Steamboat Willie originally debuted in 1928?
- Have you seen Mickey’s first full feature film Fantasia?
- Did you belong to the Mickey Mouse Club?
- Did you watch the Mickey Mouse Club show on TV? Black and white or color TV? The show began in 1955. Gulp. I’m not saying how old I was then, but I had the ears!
- Did you ever have a Mickey Mouse birthday party?
- Do you still know the theme song? (Go ahead and sing it.)
- Did you have the coveted Mickey Mouse ears?
- Have you been to a Disney theme park? How many times? What was your favorite ride or activity?
Are you looking for ways to celebrate National Mickey Mouse Day? This site has great ideas— https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/mickey-mouse-day/ Here are a few of my thoughts.
- Bake and decorate a Mickey Mouse cake for dinner. Or order one! Pinterest has lots of cake ideas.
- Create a trivia game using Mickey’s history of entertaining us.
- Plan a trip to a Disney Park – perhaps internationally.
- Binge on watching Mickey Mouse cartoons.
- Create a Mickey Mouse jigsaw puzzle. Here are two sites that are fun and easy: https://puzzlesnap.com/make-puzzle https://puzzel.org/en/jigsaw/build?menu=content
Bonus! Today is Minnie Mouse’s Birthday!

I watched The Mickey Mouse Club on TV a lot. I always enjoyed how much energy and joy all the members of the club showed.

Linda, I agree! Even after a bad day, I could look forward to watching Mickey Mouse Club and getting caught up in the enthusiasm.
I LOVE all-things-Disney. SUPERFAN. Always been a huge fan of the Mouse, and I remember Sunday nights with the Wonderful World of Disney and being an avid fan of the Mickey Mouse Club and the movies as I was introduced to them. I had my first trip to Disney Land in the ’70s and Disney World in the ’80s. Traditions continued as I became a young mother, and we had the sing-along cassettes in the car, and I then introduced my favorites to the kids and found new favorites as they came out. We started taking the kids to WDW when they were little, and I’ve had many trips to Disney resorts over the years and have now added Hong Kong and Shanghai parks to the list. (And planning on Paris next year.) Since my daughter and son-in-law have worked for the Mouse now for many (Minnie?) years, I feel like every day is Mickey Mouse Day in our world. And what amazing things I’ve been able to experience with them as they’ve gone from being character performers to back stage roles and now my daughter is one of the Walt Disney World Ambassadors. I love Mickey and the joy he brings to the world, and he’s also a great boss, according to my sources. 🙂

Kristine, LOL! I feel your excitement. A good friend of mine and her husband spent their honeymoon at Disney, and have made Minnie trips back. (good one) I remember baking Mickey Mouse birthday cakes for my boys. If you need someone to carry your bags when you head to Paris, I’m available. 🙂
I do remember Mickey Mouse. Watched the Mickey Mouse club on TV. Black and white so I am no youngster but proud to be 79 Dec. 8. I have Mickey Mouse watches. Don’t wear them now but still hanging onto them. We did go to Disney World in 1976. We had 3 children. They loved it thank you DiAnn for sharing. I enjoy your emails.

Hi Joan, happy early birthday! I have a Mickey Mouse watch too, and my early memories are in black and white. What a beautiful place to visit for a family vacation.
I loved Disney World growing up 80/90s and seeing Mickey, with my dad who has gone home to the Lord last year. I grew up with the New Mickey Mouse Club show 1989-1996, but I do remember watching the original when Disney channel played it with I think the Hardy Boys show.

Kayla, I love the memories! Thanks so much. Every generation needs Mickey! Thanks for posting.
Oh, yes! I always wanted to be Annette. I tried every way possible to recreate her hairstyle, but nothing ever worked.
We went to Disney World when it first opened. There were not nearly as many rides as there are today. Lines were so short, we got to ride as many as we wanted, as many times as we wanted.
This was on our way back to Houston from Ft Rucker, Alabama. James was taking our infant daughter and me home before he left for a year in Viet Nam. That was so long ago, yet it seems like yesterday.

Thanks, Cindy, Dean and I were there twice and loved it!
DiAnn. Of course the Mickey Mouse club was a must for my sister and me. BW tv with rabbit ears. But I must say
Goofy is my favorite character. Perhaps because I’m a little goofy too.
Sweet memories and watching our daughter when we took her to the Magic Kingdom is a priceless memory.
Thanks for bringing the kid in all of us out.
Stay young in your heart.
Blessings

Joyce, Yay! I had the ears, watched the show in black and white, and loved it all!
3. I did see Fantasia
4/5. I can’t remember if I was a member of the Mickey Mouse club or not, but I did watch it everyday on TV.
7. Yeah, I still know the song! 😂 🎶🎵
I never got to go Disney World or Disney Land. I always wanted to, but not too interested in going now.
Author
Barbara, we do know the song! Disney takes a lot of energy and about a week to see it all.
I’ve visited DisneyWorld several times. No matter my age, I enjoy seeing Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and their friends. 🙂 I’m a child at heart. Thank you for reminding me of the special times with fun characters. 🙂

Melissa, Mickey keeps us young. Such a fun place to visit!
I like the Turkey in the Straw song Mickey whistles in Steamboat Willie. I went to Disney World a couple times with my family and enjoyed the E.T. ride at Epcot. I like that several countries are featured there.
One of my favorite cartoons is with Mickey bringing home the tree with chipmunks inside that bug Pluto.
In Mickey’s Clubhouse show, Minnie and Daisy run a shop together. Donald and Goofy join in on the songs.

Thanks, Adriane, Mickey knew how to whistle a song. Epcot is a favorite of mine too. You have an excellent memory for the Mickey favorites.
Good morning, my siblings and I used to watch The Mickey Mouse Club on a black and white TV and we loved it!
Author
Alicia, my sister and I did the same!
My first memory of Mickey Mouse might have been the Mickey Mouse Club. I was very young, and we had a black and white TV. I think I remember most of the theme song.
Author
Beth, today is the day to remember Mickey – and I bet you could sing the song with the best of them.
Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me? M-I-C, K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E!!!
I never knew Minnie and I shared the same birthday!
Author
Holli, you are lucky! You could join in the parade – don’t forget your ears. 🙂 Oh, happy birthday!
