June is here, and with it comes National Dairy Month—a perfect excuse to celebrate summer’s arrival with a treat that never goes out of style: ice cream. Rich, creamy, nostalgic, and totally irresistible.
Let’s be honest—who doesn’t love ice cream? Even if you’re lactose intolerant (like me), today’s grocery shelves are packed with delicious alternatives that satisfy every craving. Oat milk, coconut, almond—2025 has truly become the golden age of ice cream options!
And before you remind me that ice cream might add a few extra pounds, let’s look at seven great reasons to dig in guilt-free:
1. Pure Fun
Whether it’s a ballgame win, a backyard barbecue, or just a sunny day, ice cream is a built-in reason to celebrate. It’s the dessert of happy moments—planned or spontaneous.
2. Memory Maker
One scoop and we’re back in childhood. Ice cream creates vivid memories: cones at the beach, sundaes with grandparents, late-night runs with friends. How many of us have a favorite ice cream photo?
3. Surprising Health Benefits
Dairy products are packed with nutrients—calcium, potassium, vitamin A—and support bone and immune health. And hey, a little indulgence can go a long way for mental well-being!
4. Social Glue
Few things bring people together like a shared treat. Conversations come easier with cones in hand—and somehow, ice cream makes everyone smile.
5. Endless Variety
From classic chocolate to matcha, vegan salted caramel to sugar-free vanilla bean, there’s a flavor (and a form) for everyone. My go-to? A scoop of lactose-free chocolate chip peanut butter with a sprinkle of granola. Totally good.
6. Support for Dairy Farmers
National Dairy Month is also a chance to appreciate the hardworking farmers who bring these creamy delights to life. Choosing real dairy supports local agriculture and sustainability efforts.
7. Do We Even Need a Reason?
Sometimes, joy is reason enough. Ice cream isn’t just a dessert—it’s a mood.
🍦Fun 2025 Fact:
According to recent polls, America’s favorite ice cream flavor in 2025 is… Salted Caramel Brownie! What’s yours?
So, how do you enjoy ice cream? Share your favorite flavor, topping, or memory in the comments—or tag me with your best ice cream moment on social media. Let’s make June the most delicious month of the year.
Here’s to sweet scoops and sweet memories!

I like any ice cream that has chocolate in it. There are other tasty flavors, but chocolate is my favorite ingredient!
I just found out that National Ice Cream Day is July 20 this year.
Thanks, Martha! I will remember you on July 20th – with something chocolate in my ice cream! Thanks!
My all time favorite was Orange Pineapple. Our local creamery had this a lot when i was growing up. Now it’s not available so Cherry Nut and Souther Pecan are my favorites.
Thanks, Jane. I much prefer your new flavors to the previous one. Maybe someone will bring it back!
I love a lot of ice cream flavors, especially if they include chocolate. But, sometimes a bowl of vanilla ice cream with lots of M&M’s mixed in is just the ticket.
Hi Tina, oh my! I love M&M’s on vanilla ice cream – and Reece peanut butter pieces . . .
Yum!!
Not surprisingly, I like a good coffee ice cream! My mom used to make it homemade. YUMM! Fun post, DiAnn. Thanks!
Hi Kristine! Thanks! We might have to indulge in an ice cream fest!
When I was a single girl and lived at home, my parents and I would go to a local mall most every Saturday night. On the way home, dad would always stop at one of the many drive up ice cream stores along the highway. He loved soft serve ice cream cones. They were so good to eat.
Linda, I love soft serve ice cream cones too! So yummy and reminds me of childhood summers.
Yeah to Ice Cream, and the memories that go with it. Sitting on the front porch at my grandmas and grandpa’s and eating ice cold creamy ice cream which we just churned in the trusty old green ice cream churn – all that time and cranking away . Best ice cream and memories ever. Always vanilla!!! Always the best !!
Nothing can ever compare to the good ol days.
Joyce, you made my mouth water! Thanks for the memories! Yes! Vanilla.
At the moment, I have a pint of Hershey’s Midnight Caramel River open–I restrain myself from eating the entire pint in one sitting. Peach season is coming, so that will be my new favorite. Missed you at Blue Ridge!
Hi Peggy, I missed Blue Ridge too. I might have to camp on your porch and help you finish the Hershey’s Midnight Caramel River pint!
I’ll welcome you inside! And when we finish the Midnight Caramel River, we’ll snitch my hubby’s Black Cherry!
LOL I’m on my way! There is a fabulous ice cream parlor in Black Mountain. 🙂
Vanilla is always good since you can top it with so many different flavors. I do love a good peach or strawberry ice cream made with real fruit. Another favorite is chocolate chip cookie dough.
Carolyn, vanilla is my go-to flavor when nothing else appeals to me. Oh yes, vanilla twist in a cone.
my favorite all the time is coffee and a root beer float
Hi Louise, coffee is a great flavor. My dad loved a root beer float – your comment brought back fond memories.
Actually, I am back to vanilla with strawberry coming in second. I like vanilla ice cream with chunks of watermelon in it.
Hi Barbara, Yes to vanilla! But I’m not a watermelon fan, so it’s all you!
Oooh, you’re not a watermelon fan! Oh dear. 😬Oooh, I’m recovering from that statement. It is my absolute favorite food on the earth,😋 and I don’t even need the ice cream. lol
But that’s okay 👍. You like other things. 👏🌺
At least you know the whole watermelon is yours!
Hahah, but I shared with my husband! He likes watermelon with vanilla ice cream, too!
Salted caramel is my fav right now! If I can add nuts to it, and a waffle cone,I’m even better off!
Katherine, just name the place and time, and I’ll be there!
I love Rocky Road or Chocolate Chip!
Janetta, I’m on my way to your house! Hope you have both flavors.
Chapman’s Wolf Pass is my favourite ice cream right now. It is a combination of chocolate peanut butter cups and fudgy brownie pieces nestled in a velvety vanilla ice cream with swirls of peanut butter ripple and thick fudge ripple.
Susan, too bad we aren’t neighbors. The Wolf’s Pass description reads like an ad. I’m looking for that flavor!
I love ice cream with chocolate syrup on top.
Barbara, that sounds soooooo good. Hubby better be ready to take me for a sundae!
