Who doesn’t love the huggable, honey-eating Winnie-the-Pooh of Hundred Acre Wood? His gentle voice and whimsical ways have delighted the hearts of young and old since English author A. A. Milne created Pooh and E. H. Shephard illustrated him in 1926. Walt Disney saw Pooh Bear’s potential and in 1961 licensed some of the film rights for movies and television. Disney’s vision ushered Pooh Bear into our hearts.
Pooh’s friends: Christopher Robin, Roo the kangaroo, and his mother Kanga, Rabbit, Piglet, and melancholy Eeyore entertained us with their fun and adventures.
Here are three of my favorite Winnie-the-Pooh quotes:
- “Life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved.”
- “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.”
- “Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”

From the New York Public Library, here are fun facts about Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends.
So many life lessons rise from these characters. They taught us how to laugh and always be learning. They practiced true friendship and displayed admirable patience. Pooh and his friends didn’t care if someone was human or animal, large or small, male or female. They were accepted and treasured for themselves and their uniqueness. If only we could model their words and actions.

When I was very young, I loved Pooh so much that my dad called me “Gina-Pooh,” and my favorite albums were “Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree” and “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.” I can still sing the songs from those records, and loved when Pooh got stuck in Rabbit’s door – “wedged in a great tightness!” Lol!!
Regina, I love your memories of Pooh! Oh, the “wedged in a great tightness” is a keeper. My husband and I shared a good laugh with this one.
I love Winnie the Pooh and friends, I love that they are always up to something and that they are all good friends and always have positive things to say. And they are all so very cute!! Have a great week and stay safe.
Thanks, Alicia. I think they bring out the kid in us with how life should be.
I read Winnie-the-Pooh books to my son and to my students when I taught. Still, I could never read the last book where Christopher Robin grows up. My husband had to come to my room and read it to my students as I sat at my desk and cried.
Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind.
“Pooh,” he whispered.
“Yes, Piglet?”
“Nothing,” said Piglet, taking Pooh’s paw. “I just wanted to be sure of you.”
Sandy, you are definitely a Winnie-the-Pooh fan. Sweet, sweet story.
Love all things “Pooh.” I remember fondly reading to all my nieces and nephews when they were small. I would imitate all the voices (as best I could). So much fun. I’ve always wanted to be a Tigger, but naturally inclined to be an Eeyore. T-I-Double Guh-ER. 🙂 Blessings sweet friend.
I like the friendships that allow disagreement but never turn away from friendship. They’re always there when needed.
Mary, friendships keep us sane, happy, and incredibly loved. Thank you.
