Welcome to January 2026 with a Giveaway!

By DiAnn Mills at DiAnnMills

We have officially stepped into 2026! I wish you a joyful and blessed New Year. May the challenges of 2025 disappear, and the good times continue to make you smile.

January is the month I update my blog post spreadsheet to you. If you’ve been a subscriber for very long, then you know I post varied topics. As always, I need help! What content would you like to see in 2026? A specific theme(s)? Topics of interest? Faith? Writing? Reading?

What you will see:

  • Author spotlights focusing on interviews and introducing other suspense writers will occur in 2026.
  • Posting new recipes during the holiday season “feeds” into my love of cooking and baking.
  • Reader giveaways and perks.

Those three items leave lots of room for your requested content.

Comment to this blog post with your ideas by Saturday, January 10th at noon CST and be entered in a random $35.00 Amazon gift card giveaway!

I’ll announce the winner in next week’s post – along with a few ideas for the blog during this year.

Be blessed, my friends!

Some thoughts perhaps on the books shortlisted for literary prizes – would be interesting to hear an author’s perspective on their view on some of the nominated works?

  4. Love your newsletters. I’ve written a memoir and am working on my platform, which I didn’t know I absolutely had to have. I recently heard an agent say that platform is going to be big for both fiction and nonfiction writers in the future. So, in addition to loving your already great newsletters, I’d love to know more about how to work on platform including social media for authors. Keep up the great work. Your books are fantastic!

  8. I heard you speak and what resonated with me was that your just like us, there is the good, bad and ugly in life. So many of us struggle with the hard things in life, divorce, prodigal children (there seems to be an epidemic of children cutting off their parents), caring for older parents, loneliness, etc. How about some tips, scripture, prayers, encouragements on just doing life in the hard with friends, and community.

  9. DiAnn, each of your posts is a blessing in some way. I agree with all the suggestions and would echo those about finding inspiration, persevering, recipes, and new authors. I also would love to hear, for the writers in this group, how to infuse our writing with joy. That is my word of the year for 2026 and verses for the year are Psalm 51:10-12.

I usually don’t leave comments even for a giveaway, but thank you for the opportunity. I enjoy your books and have even read some of your recommendations. 16. Dear DiAnn,
    I’m a bookaholic.
My first book I learned to read on was Dick and Jane.
I enjoy reading mysteries whose theme is
centered around books, like, libraries, bookstores, etc.
My whole life has been centered around libraries from the schools I attended,
to working in libraries, and volunteering in my church library for 45 years.
The church library is 80+ years old. Our inventory was 25,000 books, books on cd, and dvd’s for all ages. Unfortunately, the powers that be closed the library in 2024. Needless to say, my heart was broken along with the church members who faithfully used the library every time our doors were open.
Thank you for entering me in your giveaway.

  18. I’m happy about the recipes you’ll share, even though I don’t really cook. It’s interesting what other people make in the USA as I’m from South Africa. Posting about faith would also be great. What’s happing in your life is also nice, especially pictures. How you get ideas for your stories. Do you have pets? They make a good newsletter add on.

I’d love to hear about your life – both your writing, writing projects, etc., and about the rest, whatever you want to share – hobbies, crafts, favorite books, cooking, baking & recipes, or whatever! I love the fact of hearing directly from an author, and the chance to interact, and “get to know you”. Wishing you a wonderful week!

  28. In scanning the myriad of previous comments, I feel I’m a redundant voice, but I’d like to hear two things:
    (1) your wisdom on book marketing (on a budget), including your personal experience in what kinds of results you got from Amazon vs Facebook ads (for example).
    (2) I’d also like to see some devotional-ish blogs. You have such spiritual wisdom to share. We ache that you’ve gone through the losses you’ve experienced, but secretly we want to hear how you got through that so we can strive to do the same in our lives. (Not every blog has to be about loss, but you get my drift.)
Your books and your life are an inspiration to us all!

I started reading again about two months ago, slowly at first like a page or two a day. I’m up to 10 or 20 pages a day now. I love your books and have been a fan for years. Thank you for writing your books.

Also the idea of the book list every month sounds intriguing. I think including how you came up with your plots and main characters, what inspired you to write the story line is always interesting. I don’t know if you’re crafty or not DiAnn, but maybe share what you do when you’re not writing. I enjoy crocheting and am always trying to learn new techniques and stitches. So anything you do that you enjoy would be interesting to hear about.

  40. I always like to hear how authors come up with ideas whether names of characters or location of story or even what story is next. 41. First off, my condolences for your tremendous loss. Sorry seems to be such a lowly word.
I would like to know what to do with physical ARC copies. I know that if you donate them to charity, they wind up on a sale rack somewhere which is wrong. Maybe the recycle bin is the best place for that?
I also wonder about the placement of an author’s name on a book. Some have their name above the title and some below the title. I thought I read many years ago that the name placement denotes a bestselling author, but it’s been so long that I don’t remember. Maybe that’s not even true! Who knows?

Perrianne, interesting! I no longer receive ARC copies because they are as expensive to print as the regular book. But when I had extra copies, I donated them to churches and nursing homes.

  42. There are a lot of bad sites on the internet and poetry “publishers” are the worst, in my opinion, because very few of them are trustworthy. I have 100 poems I’ve written as well as a few with a rhythm that could translate to Rap, if an artist had interest in them. Problem is, who can I turn to, to get my poems without getting scammed?
Do you have any insight on this topic? If so, I’d love to hear from you.

    2. Hi Cindy. I am on Substack and there is a spoken word poet I read. His name is Tanner Olson. Maybe he could tell you how he gets books published. His site is writtentospeak.com and his latest book is called Getting Through What You’re Going Through.

  43. Hi DiAnn, I would especially like to read about the inspirations for your stories and places that you have visited which help to bring your stories to life. Thank you for the opportunity to enter a contest. Have a happy, healthy and blessed New Year!

  44. I would like to hear more about finding reputable ways to market our books, especially for those of us who use independent publishing venues; yet, even traditional publishing requires authors to market writings. How does one know whether to invest thousands of dollars in companies and/or individuals offering their services? Is there a trusted website with agencies available? When I seek advice, no one ever comments on writing groups online. I sank $6,000 into a local marketing firm, believing I could trust them, and all the company did was to create an author page on Facebook and post a few “created posts” about my writing and plans. I have given up trying to seek help; I have no direction to help expand my Brand. Thank you, DiAnn.

  50. Oh my! This is like opening a glittering box of treasures. I’d love to hear about your travel to The Sudan and other places: interesting moments, mixups, blessings, disasters, the people, how you pack, and a must have for that kind of trip. I love traveling overseas and usually have weight limits, but also need to need supplies or special clothes etc. I can’t travel any more, but do love hearing about it.
I’d also like some lessons on the placement of commas, including some examples. I sprinkle them on like a salt shaker, or make the article bland without them. My best friend is an English professor and gladly helps. I read rules, but no good. I write, but no good. 🤷🏻‍♀️There’s got to be a way to get them correct? 🙃
I would also like to know what you read for pleasure ,and what is your favorite song? Probably I should stop for now. lol I love learning about people. It’s not to be nosy, it’s just people are so delightfully interesting. Blessings and joy!

  56. You’ve recently suffered a tremendous loss, and yet, you seem to have kept going with your writing and social media presence. My husband and I have suffered terrible losses this past year; we lost both sets of parents and my husband’s brother in mid-November. That’s five people. We spent the year in hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice rooms. Now that everyone has been laid to rest and we’ve cleaned out and sold our parents’ homes, I feel as if it’s time to begin my writing again. And yet, I find plenty of other things to do. I seem to be avoiding it. I wonder if you could write something about moving on with your writing even though you grieve. Thank you.
