A change in seasons means we gals are putting our summer clothes away and bringing out the fall. This is my favorite time of year because I’m a fall person. The colors of burnt orange, green, deep blues, golds, and browns are my go-tos.
When I have questions about the latest styles and what is truly in from head to toe, I turn to my friend Jill Swanson. speaker, image coach, and author. Today I wanted to share her wisdom with you. She’s one awesome and beautiful lady.
So what’s in for fall? How expensive? I mean I’m on a budget. Do you have favorite shopping places? What about makeup?
Jill: Getting stuck in a rut happens to everybody. Even as an image consultant, there are times I have to do some radical closet changes to upgrade, accessorize and re-prioritize!
Here are a few self-help exercises that should give your wardrobe the kick it needs for this upcoming season:
- Take baby action steps. Are you afraid to make changes? You don’t have to ditch your entire wardrobe, instead, make it your goal to reduce what you have by 20%. Let go of 20% of your clothes, 20% of your jewelry and 20% of your shoes/purses. You’ll be amazed how freeing this is.
- Change up your makeup. Take a break from your regular routine. Go to a makeup counter and give up control to a friendly makeup artist. Instead of holding tight to what you’ve always done, let someone with fresh eyes give you suggestions. A new technique or lip color can do wonders to make you feel rejuvenated and more confident!
- Shop and save. Putting a fresh wardrobe together doesn’t mean you have to spend a bundle, 80% of my clothing is purchased at consignments stores – 80% – and I’m a fashion consultant! If you are overwhelmed by the jumble of choices, focus on a particular color or piece (ie: jacket, jewelry, etc) then enter with a mission. Also remember to try a size up and a size down from your usual size, alterations and brand variety make sizes irrelevant in the resale industry.
- Get an entire outfit. Instead of purchasing miscellaneous pieces every time you happen by a store, consider getting one complete outfit twice a year. Give yourself permission to get ALL the components for that ensemble – put together right down to the accessories and details.
- Stay on top of the trends. I know this is challenging – but you can check out resources by googling the “top 10 season trends” or get my Tip sheet/newsletter – “Got a Minute Get Some Style.” I give the top 5 and also offer a FREE complete fashion trend report. Click here: http://bit.ly/2cX2iPp
