Welcome to Author Spotlight and Susan Sleeman, my featured suspense author!
Bestselling author of Romantic Suspense and Thrillers Susan Sleeman writes the kind of romantic suspense that makes you double-check the locks—
and maybe fall a little for the hero. Her clean, high-octane stories are packed with danger, heart, and just enough faith to light the darkest corners. With over sixty novels, multiple awards, and more than two million books sold, she knows a thing or two about keeping readers on the edge of their seats—and her FBI and police citizen academy training doesn’t hurt either. These days, she calls Oregon home, where she juggles plotting crimes (fictional ones, promise), spoiling grandkids, and running The Suspense Zone. Ready to lose sleep over your next favorite book? Head to Susan’s website.
Susan has a gift for you! Featured Book Giveaway – Cold Silence Book One in the bestselling Cold Harbor Series
Meet the Cold Harbor team in this riveting story of espionage and deceit.

When his country needs him…
For Green Beret Travis Chapman, special operations and covert missions are his life. When his country calls, he reports without question. Until now. Until he’s tasked with protecting a woman he’d once loved and sent him packing. He’d rather go AWOL than spend time with civilian researcher Claire Reed. Even when he learns that her vital research project is stolen, he thinks twice about seeing her again.
Will he heed the call if it means seeing the woman who’d once broken his heart?
But everything changes when he hears that the prototype and specs for the Army’s latest virtual training program are worthless without knowledge only Claire possesses, making her a target for abduction by the clever thief. Despite their past, Travis won’t let anything happen to Claire and puts aside his feelings to go undercover to keep her safe. Can he convince Claire to rely on him to keep the training program out of the hands of subversive military groups and keep Claire alive?
There’s nothing better than having more insight into our favorite authors. So I asked Susan a few questions.
Q: What is your home state?
I grew up in Wisconsin, but I have lived in nine states.
Q: Tell us a little about you?
I write romantic suspense and I have over 60 novels in print. I write my books in series, most of the series with very interconnected characters who appear in every book but each has a featured book of their own. Most series include a team of law enforcement officers or main characters who have had previous law enforcement experience. I love developing these characters and showing the differences in their personalities and how they work together. And, of course, how they find their happily ever after.
When I’m not writing, my very favorite thing to do is spend time with my adorable grandchildren, three of which are under the age of five and are just learning who they’re going to be in life. Having a chance to spend a lot of time with them and help them develop is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
Q: What is your superpower?
Oh, wow, I don’t know if I have a superpower, but if I did, in my personal life I think it would be encouraging and supporting other people. Especially in their time of need. In my professional writing life, I would have to say it’s including new and interesting forensics in each book.
Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?
The Oregon coast is such an amazing place to visit. A breathtaking coastline, wonderful campgrounds, hotels, and home rentals. And lots of activities to do if you want to stay busy, but also a super great place just to lay back, relax, and read a book. The beaches are pristine, but don’t think it’s like most beaches you’ve experienced. The weather is cold even through the summer, and if you visit, dipping your feet in the water is likely all the swimming you will do.
Q: What is your favorite genre?
I love, love, love, romantic suspense! The very reason I write in this genre.
Q: Do you have a hobby?
I love to garden, spend time with my grandchildren, including gardening with the older ones, and of course reading is a lifelong hobby.
Q: What do you want readers to know!
A couple of interesting things about me that readers might not know – I’ve attended FBI and police citizen academy trainings. These trainings are once a week for six to eight weeks and are held by FBI agents and/or law enforcement officers. They explain how law enforcement actually works and share about their heart for service. This really has informed my writing.
Also, I had the opportunity at my FBI training to actually set off a bomb. You can see the video here. https://youtu.be/8kyUkPeYzZ8
Q: What are you reading?
I am currently between books due to deadlines. However, in a week or so I hope to pick up a new romantic suspense book by the many wonderful authors out there.
Q: Any other special interests?
I host the website www.thesuspensezone.com, where I share romantic suspense and suspense books as they release. So stop by the site to see the latest offerings.
