Creativity is in You: 10 Ways to Bring it to Life!

By DiAnn Mills @DiAnnMills

Every person on the planet is creative. We’re all born with gifts and talents unique to our personalities and how we can use them to better serve the world. Too many people believe creativity escaped them when, in truth, our creativity is begging to be explored.

We don’t have to be eccentric, bizarre, weird, or flighty. All we have to be is ourselves.

The following are 10 ways to recognize and explore your creativity.

  1. What is your passion? The word passion comes from the Greek verb meaning to suffer, and it refers to a person or a thing. Think about who you are and what motivates you to action.
  2. Consider your occupation. If it’s being a mom, you have unique ways of nurturing those you love. If you’re a teacher, nurse, lawyer, or president of your own company, you use your imagination to be a success.
  3. How do you spend your spare time? In today’s world, leisure time comes at a premium. How we plan and enjoy free moments is resourceful.
  4. Do sports interest you? Whether it’s board games, tennis, bowling, or a rousing game of football, strategy feeds into your competitive nature. Friends, that’s called creativity.
  5. Do you have a reading preference? When people dive into a nonfiction book or novel, their imagination takes over. Words become images. New worlds are discovered. Adventure leaps from the written page.
  6. Are you an excited eater or a picky partaker? Either way, the person who sits down to a meal has distinct means of choosing which foods to eat and how they will be enjoyed.
  7. The dynamics of dreams prove the power of the creative mind. Without the barriers of time and place, our subconscious is free to journey to worlds unknown.
  8. Communication involves a mix of ideas, intellect, emotion, and process. We communicate to those we love, respect, struggle with, and those from different cultures and backgrounds. How we express our words indicates vision and thought.
  9. We all clothe ourselves with different colors and styles. We choose the items we plan to wear based on our individual tastes, budget, and occasion. Open up your closet and select your favorite outfit.
  10. Worship involves an attitude of the heart. We are inspired to praise God as we know Him, according to our personality and how we view His work in our lives. Some people are reserved while others raise their hands. Some appear unemotional while others weep.

God didn’t create anything without purpose—including you. Your creativity is one of His gifts, waiting to be discovered and shared.

New and innovative ideas fill us. Complete the blank: I am creative when________________. Don’t be shy. We want to hear!

  1. I enjoy planning & taking day trips, trying out new foods, visiting museums and historical sites, and sometimes painting. It’s fun to learn a different perspective. I started writing a blog on Substack last year. 🙂

  2. Even before I can remember I had a pencil or a brush in my hand, creating the beauty of God’s “handiwork”…It has always been my calling. Along the way, I picked up various other creative way, but began to paint in a prophetic mode a few years ago. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, I partnered with God to create a group of inspirational artist to form the Sacred Fine Arts of Texas. I love serving with the gifts Jesus has endowed me with…many rewards of blessing others!

  3. When I think of being creative I think about my crocheting and my counted cross-stitch. Good therapy when I get together with our knitting and crochet group twice a week at our public library.

  4. I’m creative when I don’t try to be. When I’m on a walk, gardening, sitting on my deck relaxing, driving on a long trip. Freeing up my mind allows the ideas to flow.
Sometimes, if I simply start typing, the words come to mind and the story develops. Starting, even without a plan, is the key.

  5. I pray throughout the day. However, when I put my head on my pillow and close out the world, I spend more quality time with God. He brings me hope, peace of mind, and words of wisdom.

  6. I am creative first thing in the morning, after Bible devotions, after viewing the beautiful sunrise He created just for me, after sitting quietly to gather my thoughts.

“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

That’s an awesome new photo of you!

  7. Excellent information!
I’m creative when I just look at the beauty outside. Nature makes my wheels turn and my mission then, is to try to capture what I feel, with an image on my camera. It’s exciting and a gift God has put in front of my eyes!
I can never match what He created , but I can try.
    Blessings
