17 St. Patrick’s Day Quotes and Irish Blessings to Brighten Your Day

By DiAnn Mills @DiAnnMills

Tuesday, March 17th is the Day of the Irish, known as St. Patrick’s Day.

For today’s celebration, I’ve found seventeen quotes that will make you smile and bless your day. Some are about the day and some are Irish blessings.

  1. “St. Patrick’s Day is all about being Irish and celebrating life as only the Irish know how.” Anthony Hincks
  2. “All that is gold does not glitter. Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.” J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
  3. “Ireland is a land of poets and legends, of dreamers and rebels. All of these have music woven through and around them. Tunes for dancing or for weeping, for battle or for love.” Nora Roberts
  4. “For the whole world is Irish on the seventeenth o’ March!” Thomas Augustine Daly
  5. “When anyone asks me about the Irish character, I say look at the trees. Maimed, stark and misshapen, but ferociously tenacious.” Edna O’Brien
  6. “You can take a man out of Ireland, but you can’t take the Irishness out of the man.” Tyson Fury
  7. “Whether it’s St. Patrick’s Day or not, everyone has a little luck o’ the Irish in them.” Laura Sommers
  8. “Christ with me,
    Christ before me,
    Christ behind me,
    Christ in me,
    Christ beneath me,
    Christ above me,
    Christ on my right,
    Christ on my left,
    Christ when I lie down,
    Christ when I sit down,
    Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.”
    Saint Patrick
  9. “May the road rise to meet you; may the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.”
  10. “May your home always be too small to hold all your friends.”
  11. “May the blessings of each day be the blessings you need most.”
  12. “May you be in heaven a full half-hour before the devil knows you’re dead.” Irish Blessing
  13. “May your troubles be less and your blessings be more. And nothing but happiness come through your door.”
  14. “It’s not easy being green.” Kermit the Frog
  15. “The shamrock is a religious symbol. St. Patrick said the leaves represented the trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. That’s why four leaf clovers are so lucky, you get a bonus Jesus.” Stephen Colbert
  16. “There is no language like the Irish for soothing and quieting.” John Millington Synge
  17. “Ireland is where strange tales begin and happy endings are possible.” Charles Haughey

Today wear your green proudly, and I challenge you to write an Irish quote and share it in the comments.
